Feast of the Presentation 2025
“The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favour of God was upon him.”
Simeon and Anna have thoughts about the child Jesus and how he will be received and what his work will be and the impact his life journey will have on his parents. At the end of the Gospel, we are told that child grows and becomes wise and strong. Why is this?
Luke tells us that the favour of God rests upon and shapes him. When we look at out lives, we need to ask the question, what is shaping my life? Is it the Spirit of God or is it the social media posts I visit, the books I read, the activities I engage in, the people I choose to identify with, the heroes I emulate? Without a doubt all these things shape the colour and texture of our life. Who I associate with and spend time with will shape what I choose to do and how I choose to be. This Sunday, as we celebrate the Presentation of Jesus in the temple, we are given the opportunity to ask who and what shapes us. When Jesus has a significant place in my daily life, then my actions and thoughts will reflect that!
Announcements
Anointing of the Sick – At our February 8/9 liturgies, we will celebrate the Anointing of the Sick. Please be sure to assist those who are sick so that they may participate in our Parish prayer. The actual anointing will take place at the end of Mass. The Knights of Columbus have prepared soup and a bun. You are invited to enjoy and then come back for the anointing, or you are welcome to be anointed and then go and enjoy a bowl of soup and a bun. Let us together call upon the healing power of our God.
Use of the Nicene Creed – Thanks to some generous hands, there is present in the CBW song books a copy of the current translation of the Nicene Creed. After we have prayed the Creed, it would be helpful to return the insert to the song book. We will be using the Nicene Creed throughout the Jubilee Year 2025.
World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life – Please be sure to read the letter from our Bishop for this special day of prayer, found HERE.
Decree Announcing the Word of God Sunday – Copies of the letter written by Pope Francis, announcing and explaining the Word of God Sunday are available at the Parish Office. |
