WHO WE ARE:
The Catholic Women’s League is a national organization rooted in gospel values, with approximately 70 members in our St. Philip Neri Council. We call our members through service to the people of God. With the current pandemic situation, our year has been fairly quiet as it put a damper on many of our activities that included gatherings of members.
CWL consists of four levels of activities – Parish, Diocesan, Provincial and National. Resolutions are formed at the local level and if approved, will continue to the national level. All levels keep us informed on activities.
WHAT WE DO:
- We strive to support our parish in all ways, particularly spiritually, including having a CWL Sunday where we volunteer for all ministries at the Mass.
- During Lent, our group volunteers for one of the Friday sessions for Stations of the Cross. We lead the gathering through the stations and follow it by serving a small meatless meal, prepared by some of our members, to those who wish stay for fellowship.
- Some of our members volunteer to knit scarves and mitts, as well as prayer shawls for our parish nurse to distribute.
FUNDRAISING:
- Every spring, we hold at least one annual pie sale.
- Every winter, we sell the ‘Catholic Missions in Canada’ calendars.
CWL CLOTHING DEPOT:
The “CWL Clothing Depot”, located in the basement of the Friendship Inn on 20th Street, sells donated items at a very reasonable price. Items include small household articles, clothing, toys, etc. The depot relies solely on donations and approximately 200 volunteers, 20 of those from St. Philip Neri Council. The depot is able to help families and children that are in transition or in dire need. The all profits of the sale of goods are distributed back into the community.
